If I could give this man a 0, I would. My husband was taken to the Methodist trauma center after a serious car accident. We saw many doctors in the ER/Trauma unit, but never Dr. Weber who was listed as his 'primary.' I assume some of the many residents that were in the trauma area with us were part of his team but we were never told. Given the severity of his accident, I did not appreciate only being seen by residents, medical students, and nurse practitioners. The only reason we knew that he was the primary was seeing his name listed on his chart and paperwork. I don't remember ever even hearing his name. After a CT scan, we were told he had a broken sternum,2 broken ribs, and a broken clavicle. We were originally advised that all of the CT scans performed at admission would be repeated before discharge. At some point during our stay, this opinion changed. However, we were never told about this nor was the decision explained. Upon discharge, we actually had to ask which ribs were broken. We were not told and given all of the injuries and pain medications he was on, my husband could not tell. Also upon discharge, we saw on the CT report that fluid was noted behind his sternum. We were not told of this, were not educated on possible problems to watch for, and it was not followed up on. We were sent home on Percocet 5/325 which did not come close to covering the pain involved with all of the bruising, broken bones, cuts, scrapes, swelling, etc. When we called the on-call doctor covering for Dr. Weber, we were told no pain medication would be called in after 5:00 - like no one is in pain after hours. The on-call doctor told us that their practice was only treating the clavicle, not the rest of his injuries, his trauma doctor needed to prescribe more pain medications?!?!? We were advised to call the next morning for an appointment with Dr. Weber if more pain medications were necessary. After a completely sleepless, painful night, we called the office only to be told that there were no 'trauma' doctors available that day. When I questioned why I was told the previous night that Dr. Weber was not the trauma doctor, no one could explain. Apparently, they should have been treating all of the injuries, not just the clavicle. We were denied an appointment with a trauma doctor, requested any other doctor in the office and were told that we couldn't see any doctors other than trauma. We requested additional pain medication (since it was now before 5:00) and were again told no. I argued this with the medical assistant and was eventually offered Toradol by another medical assistant. I again argued the point but got no where and was actually told by another nurse that nothing stronger was available, a complete LIE! There are multiple higher doses of Percocet and other, stronger pain medications that could have been offered. They actually told me to give him Ibuprofen. Considering this was less than 48 hours after my husband was hit by both a semi truck and a dump truck while drive a civic, I almost blew a gasket. How could you tell someone with his kind of injuries to take Ibuprofen? I consider this a cold-hearted, non-caring decision by a doctor who did not want to be bothered. We later had the CT scans repeated at an outside hospital as they should have been by Dr. Weber. We were told that he did not have just 2 broken ribs but multiple broken ribs on both sides, some ribs broken in several places. We were also told at Methodist that the clavicle break was not separated and did not need surgery or treatment. The second CT scan revealed that the ends of the clavicle bones that were broken were 1 1/2 inches apart and will likely require a treatment called closed reduction. After the untreated pain and incorrect diagnoses and treatments offered by this doctor and his practice, I would not recommend this doctor or practice to my worst enemy.
